I often visit old historic cemeteries when I travel because of the peace, beauty, and history that can be experienced.
Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannah, Georgia
A cemetery since 1846, the Bonaventure Cemetery is 160 acres of beautiful grounds in a rural setting of Savannah, Georgia. Among other famous graves, this photo shows the grave of Little Gracie Watson (1883 - 1889), by sculptor John Waltz, who created a statue that perfectly reflected Little Gracie. Gracie’s family made the move from Boston to Savannah when her father had the opportunity to manage one of the most popular hotels in Savannah. She died of pneumonia at the age of six.
I visited this historic cemetery during one of the first big trips in the van throughout the Southeast US in October 2020.
Oakwood Cemetery, Spartanburg, South Carolina
This cemetery is locally referred to as “Hell’s Gate”, and is known for significant paranormal activity. From people hearing the faint sound of children’s laughter to seeing glowing orbs that float amidst the old tombstones, walking around this cemetery is an experience that makes it apparent how these claims could be made.
Garden Of Love Pet Cemetery, Micanopy, Florida
